Chelsea defender signs two-year contract.

Chelsea is pleased to confirm defender Kaiden Wilson has signed a new two-year contract, which includes a further one-year option. 

The centre-back joined the Blues as an Under-14 after impressing at a grassroots tournament in Bristol. He progressed through the youth ranks at Cobham and made two appearances for our Under-18s during the 2021/22 campaign.

He established himself as a regular in the side’s defence the following season and this term made 18 starts as our Under-18s clinched the Under-18 Premier League South title.

Wilson has also made the step up to our Under-21s this season. He featured twice in Premier League two during the campaign in addition to starting our two play-off matches against Brighton and Hove Albion and Arsenal.

  Some really talented players have been unfortunate to not capture more minutes in the Premier League at Chelsea this season so far.  Enzo Maresca has been handed the tough task of managing a seriously impressive yet large group of players. He has also had his hands tied by the impressive performances of a number of his starting squad in the Premier League. The likes of Moises Caicedo and Cole Palmer have started every single league game for good reason. This has left some scrapping for their minutes in the cup competitions, notably the Conference League where they currently sit top of the lot. Christopher Nkunku is one player who has taken his chances when they have been afforded to him. He has already reached double digits in all competitions. However, he has just one Premier League start to his name this season, with that coming on the opening day of the season against Manchester City.  The Arsenal boss has issued a glowing verdict on Enzo Maresca and the quality of players since his era began at Chelsea.  Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says he has been “really impressed” by the start Enzo Maresca has made to his reign at Chelsea.  Speaking in his press conference , Arteta expressed admiration for the way Maresca has held firmly to his beliefs: "Really impressed about what he’s done. Really impressed with what they’ve done over a year. With Mauricio [Pochettino] last season, I think they were extraordinary. You could see the squad and the quality they have.
