VIDEO: Filipe Jorgensen vs Robert Sanchez- Who is the best No.1 for Chelsea?
According to the transfer oracle, Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea will pay €24.5m to Villarreal to acquire Denmark international, Filipe Jorgensen who will sign a 7-year contract.
Why Chelsea want Jorgensen:
First off, Jorgensen is a reliable shot stopper. Although he conceded 65 goals and kept just six clean sheets during the 2023/24 season, Villarreal would've shipped a lot more had Jorgensen not been between the sticks - the keeper made a La Liga-high 143 saves during the campaign.
Along with his ability between the sticks, Jorgensen is also a top class ball-playing goalkeeper too.
The 22-year-old's passing range was vital for Villarreal throughout the 2023/24 campaign, completing over 1,000 passes and averaging 44.7 successful passes per 90 minutes with his club side.
Considering the possession-based style of play new manager Enzo Maresca wants to implement, Jorgensen could be the perfect signing to allow Chelsea to play out from the back.
What are his weaknesses?
The lack of clean sheets is obviously a bit of a worry, though that could be equally down to Villarreal's back four being less than watertight. Another worry is Jorgensen's lack of command of his penalty area. He's just 22 years old, sure, but the goalkeeper does tend to struggle from set pieces and balls being lumped into the box. The fact that he stopped just 5.2% of crosses that came into his box at Villarreal attests to this.
It's certainly something to work on.
Well, we'll take a look at who the better goalkeeper is between Jorgensen and Sanchez:
