"They must be stopped." Arne slot names two Chelsea stars who will pose a threat to Liverpool in Sunday's clash.
Enzo Maresca may have to make two changes to his starting XI as Chelsea face Liverpool.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot has identified two Chelsea stars as potential threat to Liverpool's victory on Sunday.
Per team news Maresca will be without both Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella for the match due to suspension. The pair picked up their fifth bookings of the season against Nottingham Forest before the international break.
Captain Reece James could be in the matchday squad for the first time this season, having fully recovered from a hamstring injury, while Levi Colwill and Carney Chukwuemeka are also expected to be available. The former had picked up a knock whilst on England duty.
Heading into the clash, Liverpool boss Arne Slot has already identified Chelsea as a threat going into the game:
"It is not up to me to say something about an approach. The only thing I saw is they were really successful in the second half of last season, it is a good forecast to what you can expect the next season.”
“They got some good players and a good manager in, it is a young team, a lot of long-term contracts, they are in a good place if I look at the quality they have, if I look at the way they play.”
“They got a lot of criticism in recent years but if you look at where they are now, they are already a threat for the top four or three positions, and they will be in the upcoming years if they can continue bringing good players in and keeping this squad in place.”
Arne slot believes Caicedo and Noni Madueke may be a problem for his team to tackle:
“Chelsea got some vital players in the midfield and also and also in the attack.”
“Likes of Madueke and Caicedo are a great threat for any team we need to focus on them, we just need to focus on Chelsea attacks very they are very dangerous on attack we need to be more careful.” Slot said as quoted by Chelsea247
Under new head coach Arne Slot, Liverpool lead the way in the Premier League after seven games, having conceded just twice. One point ahead of champions Manchester City and Arsenal, the Reds have won all but one of their games in the league this season - and nine out of ten in all competitions.
The Merseysiders' only slip-up this term came on matchday four last month, when they fell to a shock 1-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Since then, Liverpool have bounced back with six straight wins across the Premier League, the Carabao Cup and the Champions League. Most recently, Diogo Jota’s early goal gave the 19-time English champions a 1-0 top-flight victory on the road at Crystal Palace.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s first campaign under Enzo Maresca has started with four wins and just one defeat from seven Premier League games, leaving the Blues in fourth, four points behind Liverpool.
The West Londoners, who haven‘t finished in the top four since the 2021/22 season, head to Anfield on a seven-game unbeaten run in all competitions. In their final run-out before international week, Chelsea drew 1-1 with Forest at Stamford Bridge, Noni Madueke’s equaliser earning the hosts a point.
