"They need to do better." Enzo Maresca names two Chelsea stars who need to improve following sloppy performance in Gent clash.

Chelsea put up another impressive display in the opening game of their UEFA Europa Conference League campaign with a 4-2 hammering against Gent.

Overall, it was a really positive performance from the squad against Gent. However,  two players were not all that impressive against Gent and Enzo Maresca did not hold back about their performance.

First was Mykailo Mudryk. He set up a couple of opportunities for his teammates, including a fine cross to assist Renato Veiga who scored his first goal for the club.

However, Maresca was not always pleased with Mudryk on Thursday evening per Football.London's Bobby Vincent. At one point Mudryk failed to protect the ball and was dispossessed too easily on the wing, leading the Chelsea boss to yell in frustration while turning away in anger in the dugout.

That is not the first time we have seen Maresca lose it with Mudryk on the touchline, but overall the Italian will be delighted with what he witnessed from the Ukrainian throughout the 90 minutes.

At full-time, Maresca was spotted giving goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen a lecture. It once again proves the point that the Italian is such a perfectionist.

Jorgensen came into the side for the under-fire Robert Sanchez, who made a couple of mistakes in the weekend's victory against Brighton. It was a steady performance from the Danish goalkeeper but he was not tested too much.

Gent's two goals gave Jorgensen no chance and apart from that, the goalkeeper was never really called into action. While Jorgensen will be pleased he did not have too much to do throughout the 90 minutes, bizarrely, he might be wanting to be busier next time out as he looks to pip Sanchez to the No.1 spot in the Premier League.

Speaking after the game, Maresca highlighted that players who didn't perform well needed to do better.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca told TNT Sports:

"Good performance. It was a tough game and we approached it well very. It's a shame the second goal we conceded, we can avoid that.

"Every game is complicated. We have many things we can do better - attack better, defend better.

"The ones who play tonight it doesn't mean they won't play the next game.

"I know Kiernan very well. I know when you are the main player and then move to a big club it's not easy because you're not the main player. Sometimes you struggle a bit at the beginning so I was very happy for him."
